Well ... here we are at the end of August .. hard to believe , yet I so want this Fall to BEGIN !I have a ton of work facing me .. loads of bulbs that will need the homes I thought would be perfect in my mind's eye, but when practicality lands with a thump ? Will it all work ?
Meanwhile .. the hydrangea are morphing into colours that are a treat for my garden soul !
Little Lamb was my first hydrangea and I instantly fell in love with her.
In fact I dried a small bouquet and kept it for years until the dust was a bit much to handle.
I hope to gather some this year and keep them for encouragement ? through out the winter.
Berry White in transition .. I think that "green" stage is beautiful too !
Joe Pye is a magnet to pollinators .. I try very hard to keep some, even though not many, in the sunny side of the garden to give those pollinators a fighting chance of filling up with what nourishment they need .. I do get frustrated trying to capture some clear pictures but ? it is what it is and I am happy to have them all drink in the goodness.
I also have another "crop" of butterfly weed which surprised me.The Porcelain Berry vine has set tons of berrys .. what ever is left that the birds haven't already picked off, will turn into the most amazing range of blues .. even some with freckles. This is an old vine , an original from when I first turned this strip into the sun strip part of the garden.
It is a variegated vine but some sections don't display that . Do they remind you of grapes ?I used to go mad containing the vine to my side of the fence, but my neighbor kept telling me she didn't mind it wondering over on her side .. so this year I let it WONDER all over the place.
The thuggish ? anemone in the ally way garden is blooming .. it looks great next to the annual purple fountain grass .. I wish that grass was perennial here but no ... so I will be upending that planting with Phantom hydrangea and even though it may take a couple of years , those hydrangea will be amazing there.Shout out to weigela My Monet ... it is a small shrub (plus I transplanted way too many times of course) it is a beautiful foil against a dark bugle weed (can't remember the name) and Lady's Mantle. The ally way is so much brighter with the BES. The Kiwi vine is behaving itself so far and another bonus is that this neighbor also is happy to have some greenery on her side as well.
The Honeysuckle vine is still pumping out flowers, but I keep wondering if I am going to have a constant problem with aphids in the Spring .. that was not something I expected.
Anyone out there with that as a consistent problem ?
I also have to mention, if I haven't before ... how much I love moss ! I want it to fill the cracks of the flagstone in the back garden because it is moist and shaded it is a perfect setting for it.I bought two containers of these Hens'Chicks because I thought they might be perfect for the front flagstone path .. it is sunny and dry there most of the time, so it should work, shouldn't it ?We have had a lot of rain recently .. my Japanese Maples have been loving it .. I really want them to be as healthy as possible so they can survive the winter and come back shining .
Yes .. I had to sneak in one more picture of my favorite anemone yet again .. the big question is "will they survive our winter and come back as gorgeous as they are now ?"
Well .. I won't be posting for a while .. but I was hoping to get some reading of blogs in before I shut down for a time .. I want to keep that connection going with fellow garden bloggers !My wish is for everyone to stay safe and healthy .. wear your mask ... you will be setting an example to keep your own health intact, having other people paying attention to that gesture !
I have to say though .. Canadians on the whole accept the science and truly stick together on that issue.

Do have a good break. And we look forward to seeing you soon.
Love and light
Little Lamb is a beauty! I just scolded Endless Summer today, and told it that if it’s going to take up so much green space, it needs to do more than give me one single flower clump. Maybe I scared it straight. Luckily I have Little Quickfire to give me tons of blooms. Stay safe and healthy!
Thank you Natasha ! .. yes a break indeed but I will be thinking of you all ;-)
Hello Robin and thank you !.. I do love LL and all the others that bloom their hearts out for me .. but yes I have non-performing ones that will be leaving ! LOL
I love Little Quick Fire .. I have it at the foot of big Quick Fire ..they bloom really well together .. but yes ! a stern talking to ? sometimes that is just the snap of the fingers they need ? LOL
Hello and thank you for your blog posts which are always informative. Enjoy your downtime, be well and stay safe.
Glenda
Thank you Glenda .. My wish is we all stay well and safe during such stress filled times.
I so hope the world calms down soon ? ..
Take care! happy gardening! Read you soon.
Thanks Jenn you too !
I am still admiring the photos from your garden. The TLC is showing :)
Hope you have a rejuvenating break
Thank you so much Monika ! I very much enjoyed your post and left a maybe too long comment LOL
Nice..your garden contains beautiful plants that have their respective functions. I am interested in hydrangea, berries and grapes. Unfortunately, in our country, berries and grapes cannot be grown because of the tropical climate.
The Japanese maple also looks beautiful. Farming crops and seeing them grow big and fertile is a satisfaction in itself, of course.
Terrima kaaih seeing this garden makes me feel fresher.
Have a great day
Stay safe there
Best regards
Hello there Justcherry ;-)
Thank you so much for visiting ..gardening is such a stress buster in these troubled times .. I truly don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't have a garden to putter in.
You must have so many interesting and unusual plants with your tropical one .. I have seen some with documentaries on TV .. amazing places in your part of the world !
Say healthy and safe and enjoy life as much as possible ;-)
This was amazing post.I love hydrangeas. It would be my pleasure if you join my link up party related to Gardening where you can post about plants and flowers here at http://jaipurgardening.blogspot.com/2020/08/garden-affair-love-for-caladiums.html
You have some beautiful hydrangeas as well! The colors they get in the autumn are as beautiful as when they are fresh and new. You might check with places like florists that sell gift-type potted plants for the 'Shooting Stars' hydrangea aka 'Sumida-no-hanabi'--that is the type of place that sells them here, not garden centers.
Anyway, your garden looks beautiful, so green and...rained on...not dried out and sunburnt like a lot of mine does at the end of summer. I have that same Anemone--or very similar--and love it. It's well-behaved here, maybe dryness holds it in check.
Here in California many many people wear masks on rare trips out. Millions of us are staying home, doing the right thing. The Great Divider in Washington DC is the one being so irresponsible.
Best wishes! This, too, shall pass.
Hello there Hoover Boo and thank you !
I am a fool for hydrangea ... I can't tell you how many different ones I bought last year because the price was just right ? They are gorgeous in the Fall and no problem really as far as care .. I do have a couple of non performers so they are getting the boot !
I am so sorry for all of the good people caught up in the utter nonsense and cruelty of that creature .. I so hope things will be totally decided as quickly as possible when your election happens .. but i don't think people realize how long it may take with the mail in ballots.
Best of luck and may good triumph over "stupid" evil ! LOL
Hello, Joy,
I was glad to see your comment on my blog and I'm here:-)
Lovely hydrangea, the pink one is my favorite. Mine is turns pink as well. The Porcelain Berry vine is interesting, I have no it, pretty berries. Your ally way looks nice, I remember what it looked like before you started planting there.
Your new succulents Hens'Chicks are cute, they found the right place.
Well, don't end your blog, keep reading your blogger friends and especially me.
Wish you all the best !
Hello back Nadezda girl ;-)
Thank you so much ... hydrangea have become a backbone of my gardens now .. I am in love with them ? LOL ...Thank you so much also for remembering what I started out with .. almost nothing and it has taken so many years to get it up to speed ? LOL
I'm not ending my blog .. thank you for caring ... I just have so many things to do that I'm afraid I won't have much time for it .. just for a while though, and then ? when winter starts .. I will find some way to blog about plants and gardens .. we all need that touch during the long winter sleep right ?
Everything is looking delightful, those hydrangeas have such lovely subtle shades. I spray aphids with a solution of water and dishwashing liquid. I love your mossy wood, I'm a huge fan too.
Oh, I will miss you, what a shame I won't know what you're up too, hopefully you'll sneak in the odd post of bulb planting and whatever else you are hatching. Meanwhile, stay safe, and be happy.xxx
Thank you so much Snowbird ;-)
I am stuck in love with my hydrangea .. they are so little work and such big pay off in appearance .. and moss, what can I say between moss and ferns they remind me of the woods I used to play in as a child .. deep appreciation of those natural plants.
I will be back and forth when I can .. things are just going to be a bit too busy for a while to be consistent on here .. now worries girl ! I will try and keep up with my blog reading
