Bursting Berries

When I decided on Engleman Ivy for the trellises and shed .. I didn't even think of the berry part .. I was in "vine" mode, to cover up ugly surfaces and soften them with lovely cool green .. but the berries have their way with me now .. I so appreciate the food factor for the birds again .. I have more plants than I had ever considered as bird "FOOD" .. it is funny !
This picture I did not enhance or detail .. it is a foggy picture, but seeing the berries mid air stuck up on the vine from that morning .. well it tickled my fancy bone ?

How generous you are to your birds! Do they have something like our National Wildlife Federation in Canada? You should get your yard declared a wildlife habitat as I did. As you obviously would fulfill all the requirements.

Brenda .. we have associations like that .. but then I would have to deal with 'people" and that hermit in me, is just saying "no!" LOL .. but I am amazed at how many plants/trees have worked out providing great bird food ! : )

Patsi ! .. Thank you girl ! .. but I'll be slowing down soon .. can't keep the pace up when the snow hits ! LOL

Hi Tina .. I forget this vine has berries every year until this time of the season .. then the birds start feasting and then I NOTICE : )

I too have berries - more on the trees, shrubs and vines than I have ever seen. I will post soon about the 'blue'berries on the variegated porcelain vine.I'm sure the birds are thanking you!
Bye the way, thank you for faving my blog - glad you enjoy it.

Yikes! Don't stand still for very long, in the vicinity of this vine... at lengths of 30-50 feet, these rapid growing members of Parthenocissus crowd are a rowdy bunch. My native, wild woodbine does hold our unstable slope, but covers absolutely every adjacent desirable plant, by the end of summer.

I'm currently doing my annual fall battle with this ill-mannered customer. However, I am partial to the burgundy fall color and berries relished by our cardinals, mockingbirds and other songbirds. I guess it's a love-hate thing!

We sell all three at the garden center... P. quinquefolia (woodbine/Virginia creeper). P. q. 'Engelmanni' and P. tricuspidata (Boston Ivy)... a rugged group! Well, anything that helps out the birds, isn't all bad... Deb

Deb ... you said it !
It truly is a love hate relationship with this vine .. it works so well covering up ugly surfaces .. but JEEZ ! .. don't stand still is right !
I get the whip and chair out more than a few times a year with this one ! : )

GRRR! (I'm laughing at the whip and chair.) Maybe that's what I need, rather than pruners.

Deb .. you have to wear one of those "pith" helmets too .. it just wouldn't be the same without that hat girl ! haha

I have a mental picture of emerging from the tangle of woodbine, bindweed, roses, barberry and golden raspberries... hacking my way through the "bush" with a machete, wielding a chair, whip and pruners, attired in a pith helmet... greeted with, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" ~ Deb

Deb .. Now you have the right idea girl ! It is all an adventure .. you aren't alone .. my neighbor's raspberry canes stick their thorny arms into my part of the garden through the fence .. and that is a quick wake up let me tell you ! ... plus .. I have golden barberry in the front .. brush against that the wrong way ? OUCH !
Did you just hear some jungle drums ??? LOL
