Cabin Crazies HIT as Snow Piles UP !!!

The "girls" are quietly watching me go cabin crazy today ... this evening hit big time .. I think the neighbors heard the screaming over their snow blowers engines this time. I think the crazies are compounded by reading other blogs whose owners are actually in the garden or watching plants ... actual plants coming up from the soil.
Emma just looks annoyed when I start taking pictures (she likes to get a beauty nap in first) .. Sophie on the other hand is wondering "do we get snacks now mom ??"

You can still spot Dave by way of his pointy toque ... the rest of the "Benchwarmers are being blanketed ? but the white stuff .. we are under a heavy snowfall warning .. what the heck are they warning us about ? ... we KNOW it is snowing a LOT .. it is WINTER and it does THAT HERE !!!
I do feel a bit sorry for Dave and his crew .. they were just coming out of the iceberg when this one hit .. that freeze, thaw cycle is really getting on his nerves .. the mushroom upon which he sits isn't going to be the only CRACKED thing around here soon.

Thus the idea ... remember, there is no logic to cabin fever ... it just takes over .. and nothing can stop it. Unless ....... someone has made FUDGE ... then a small break might occur .. and I might even share ?

Otherwise it is "Lets paper the deck door in garden magazine pictures .. I won't have to look at the snow .. just pretty plant pictures that I can pretend are in my back garden here .. those strange people that some time appear in said pictures are just neighbors admiring my garden ... the ads for garden gear and gazebos .. well .. maybe they are Christmas presents I forgot to unwrap ???

Okay, your weather makes ours look downright tropical! Holy cow, I can't even imagine snow like that. Stay calm, eat fudge and thumb through gardening mags...

I know what you mean, we haven't had school one day this week.YOU CAN ONLY STAY HOME AND CLEAN SO MUCH ALREADY!!! Enough is enough already with this weather. I just want to plant something!!! If I can just make it through Feb. I'll be ok!!! LOL

Oh my! Over Christmas, Lowes (do you have that big box store?) was selling film that you put on your patio windows of beautiful winter scenes...Trees with snow, Santas etc...In case you didn't have a wintry scene of your own. I think you have found your own fun way to create a 'scene'...I mean view!

Send me your P O Box and I will send emergency chocolate! I have just the thing! (((you)))

I like your version of cabin crazies, Joy. I may be joining you tomorrow, as we're having a big session of snow now too. Pass the fudge, please....

Brenda Pruitt said...

I fear your sanity snowed in up there, Joy. Perhaps a bit of "The Shining" glowing through your posts lately... We need you in the ranks of menopausal gardeners. Do not let the snowman ghosts drag you away. Kick and scream until the cavalry rushes in in snow shoes to save you. Actually, I just now typed "shave" instead of save, but fixed it. Perhaps they should shave you? Now I'm going crazy too...

Just paint the windows with green grass and flowers. That way you won't have to look at the snow at all.

I can TOTALLY relate. Is it spring yet???

Linda said...

We had enough snow today to make anyone get the cabin crazies. I think I'll become a bear, hide under a blanket and hibernate till spring.

Lona said...

LOL! Love your magazine flower beds.
Hey, whatever it takes huh?

I can relate. It was agonizing to walk out the door this morning to find another 3 inches of snow from the night before. Aauugh!

I just truly can't imagine living where it snows that much! I would definitely be having cabin fever. We had two days Lexi was out of school for ice....I can't imagine that for days upon days on end.

Love the pictures of Emma and Sophie. They are just so beautiful.

Deep breaths, Joy. Either spring will come, or it won't. It usually does, though later for you and me than others. Sorry you're getting more snow. We've had a couple of weeks without much additional snow, and everyone is sighing with relief. But it's probably saving up for Easter, like last year. Easter bonnets and snow boots are great together! Go to whiteflowerfarm.com and order yourself another pretty plant catalog (they're free right now). Regards, VW

I think you're starting a new meme -- cabin crazies! LOL

I took a picture of my garden bench today. There's nothing to say about it. I just did it. My BBQ story was written before Christmas and I had it just sitting there and published it for today.

We all need to get back into the garden, don't we?

Oh, Joy! Your post made me laugh, and I applaud your stand against the snow with your shield of gardening magazines. How many more days until spring?

Plowing Through Life (Martha) said...

Sigh...I share your cabin fever nuttiness today! The snow has been piling up all day long…again. We just finished cleaning up around here and BAM…it’s all back again…all that white, fluffy, not-so-pretty-anymore-because-Christmas-is-over stuff. ARGH! I am so tired of cleaning the car free of snow, snow, snow… Sometimes I feel like I’m gonna scream whenever I’m outside brushing the snow off the car and my fingers start to feel the frostbite starting to take hold of them… I was really tempted to make some cookies…A LOT of cookies today, but I just made a batch a couple of days ago and we’re not even half way through them. More cookies? Nah… But fudge sounds just about right.

Mother Nature, PLEASE bring back the spring as soon as possible…

Hang in there Joy, and I'll try to do the same...

Do you ever need spring to hit, and hit hard. Here's hoping for you!

Sorry the weather is so bad there right now. It is nice to go through magazines and dream of nicer weather though. I get some great ideas when all I can do is look through magazines(-: I hope you find lots of inspiration too!(-: Spring will be here soon enough. Enjoy your break(-:

And how many months does this last ?

Well, you poor thing! I must say though...you are creative! Good thing or THEY might show up at your door soon with a not so comfy jacket for you to try on...complete with buckles :)

Hi Nola .. I think the garden magazines really do a Jekyll and Hyde cycle with me .. some days I am so happy reading them .. others , well it is torture because I know how long this winter IS ! Thanks ! : )

Lynnn .. my god girl ! You are in the same boat as I am : )
That is it !!! .. I just want to plant something .. even pruning is appreciated .. BIG sigh .. can we make it through February ??

Gail !!! You are too sweet girl .. but I haven't even got on the BEAST (aka treadmill) yet and the guilt of extra poundage is flooding my senses too (silently screaming here .. hubby trying to drink his morning coffee .. he would spill it all over if he heard me !!) .. Lowes , we almost got one except for our outrageous city council turning down their application to build in Kingston .. I hate our city council. Do they have nice garden views ? .. that way I don't have to rip my magazines apart .. BIG sigh !

Jodi .. fudge is coming .. it is inevitable .. I know from living down east it is even worse at times there .. we get more sun than you do .. cabin crazies are a serious problem there girl .. what kind of fudge do you want ???

Brenda !!! You CRAZY woman you !! I laughed so much at the concept of "The Shining" because it is so true .. I do Jack N. impersonations all the time .. more often lately though .. so that is kind of scary .. YES !! I want to escape the snow ghosts and remain in the land of menopausal garden bloggers girl !! HELP !!!

Cinj .. That is a very good idea .. because the magazine pictures can get rumpled and scary looking after I have kissed them too much .. is this year worse than last year ??? JEEZ !!

Linda !! We are supposed to be Polar Bears in nature when we live in the land of the SNOW .. but life gets in the way and we actually have to get dressed ,slap some make-up on (so not to scare the general public , even though they look like zombies too) and go out to get more supplies .. otherwise HIBERNATION would be the KEY !!!

Hi Lona .. YES !!! what ever it takes to try and survive is on my mind .. which has shrunk so much it is SCARY : )

Jill-O ... Such is the case this morning .. hubby drank his coffee so fast and headed out the door for the snow blower (thank god for that invention from a saint in Quebec .. Canadian EH !) .. more snow to come today ... : (

Hi Darlene .. Emma and Sophie say THANK YOU !! : ) girl. Lexi must have had FUN ! .. our kids are so tough that even if the buses weren't running ... we made them ... WALK ! hahaha

VW !! Thanks girl .. I visit that site a lot but I thought they would only send catalogs to American customers ? .. Hey .. I know about that snow and Easter stuff .. we had that happen on our wedding day .. April 9th it was freezing in Ottawa .. snow drifts and the whole shebang .. but we are Canadians EH ! wink wink

Cameron .. I think we should share our Cabin Crazies .. it might bring us to the other end of the tunnel faster perhaps ? .. I would love to talk garden language so much right now .. I guess I have to switch to the virtual world completely ? : )

Hi J .. Glad to make you laugh : ) ... I don't want to actually count those days because I know we have longer to go .. so the pressure of numbers will actually enhance my CC !! LOL

Martha ! I owe you an e-mail .. just some chit chat I was going to share with you .. YES ! fudge and cookie making .. can have a not so great after affect for me .. those extra pounds will be too hard to handle with CC ? .. e-mail will be coming soon ! : )

Jen .. isn't there some saying like "Hit me baby !" is that a card playing expression ? .. well now it is a SPRING one and I so need it !! LOL

Hi Robin .. I am over it as soon as January 2nd hits girl .. and I have no hope of that ever happening ... just to get to February and actually get through it and most of March .. aarrrggghhh !!!!

Hi Tina .. yup ! the girls are very loved and pampered girls .. they don't mind the snow at all ! : )

Hi Cindee .. YES ! .. there have been a lot of ideas I have gotten from these magazines .. I really do love reading them .. again and again and again ?? LOL

Patsi ... way too many months yet girl ! .. When does True Blood start up again ???

Tessa .. that is what keeps me wondering .... when the neighbors will report the screaming and hysterical laughing .. it has me VERY paranoid too !!!!! LOL

Rose said...

I'm with you, Joy. I wasn't doing too bad until I started reading other blogs where people were showing off their snowdrops or daffodils beginning to shoot up. They're cleaning up the debris in their garden and planting leftover bulbs. I wonder if I dig a hole in the snow and lay a bulb on top of the frozen ground whether it might grow??

Did you say you have fudge??

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Rose .. that is what I am talking about girl .. THOSE other bloggers showing off to us poor snow-people.
It would be interesting to see what would happen to that bulb in the snow .. we might be able to create a whole new way of gardening ? LOL
Hey .. come on over girl .. we all need a good dose of FUDGE !!

Phillip Oliver said...

It is beautiful but I know you are probably sick of the stuff. Maybe you should add a greenhouse addition onto your house? Reckon that would suppress the cabin fever blues?

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Phillip .. believe me, after months of "it" you would be sick of it too ! And YES !! .. that is on my number one hit list when we win the lottery .. a greenhouse : ) maybe some workers to help me keep it going too ? LOL

Meadowview Thymes said...

Wow-that's alot of snow! I would be cabin crazy too! Can you plant things inside--start seeds, force bulbs, etc. However, the thought of making fudge is the best idea by far! Yum!!
As usual, cuddle kitties are precious!!! Hug them for me!

Poor Joy, you really are getting hit hard by winter. I love your idea though of papering the windows with garden catalogs. Do you think we could fool ourselves this way? I may have to try it! We just had a huge storm yesterday, a few inches of snow, then a few inches of ice, then a few more inches of snow, all in one day. Blah! The worst winter we've had here in Central Ohio since we moved here five years ago. I'm used to bragging about our mild winters, compared to my old home in Michigan, but this year, I'd better keep quiet.

Yolanda Elizabet Heuzen said...

Perhaps you should change the title of your blog into cabin fever 4 me? ;-) You poor little thing! Quick, just cram your mouth full of fudge or chocolate, grab a cat and start stroking it. It will calm you down in a jiffy. BTW don't you have an emercency indoor plant at the ready that you can hold on for dear life when the crazies hit you? ;-)

Anonymous said...

Hehe, good idea to put garden magazines on the windows! :) That's a lot of snow, but with a lot of fudge you'll probably survive!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

MT .. I love your new profile picture ! Thunbergia is a real favorite of mine and for a few summers I had them growing and filling up inverted tomato cages on either side of our shed .. they were gorgeous : )
Plants are tricky here .. I do have them on top of the kitchen hutch and a few other places my girls can't get at .. but all this snow is getting on my nerves !!! LOL .. The girls say thank you : )

Hi Robin .. we have had another 6 inches last night and it is still snowing this morning ... it just keeps coming and coming .. something like the "EverReady Bunny" ??? I'm going to try to NOT look outside today .. Big sigh !!!

Yolanda .. I was laughing so much at your remedy for me, my husband had to ask "what is SO FUNNY??" .. just that metal image of doing what you described made me crack right up .. thanks ! .. Yup, I do have indoor plants high up away from the girls .. but you know .. I am Canadian but I do have my sanity limits ? LOL

Hi Andre .. I think you may have a scientific formula in the making for me ? .. It dropped another 6 inches last night and still snowing this morning .. I'm going to have to make a LOT of fudge to catch up ?? : )

Hi Joy, pictures of pretty flowers and gardens, not crazy but brilliant! We have no snow, but it is just cold enough that the clean up for spring is not happening like it should. The forecast for low temps keeps the hellebores from being deleafed and the liriope from being mowed and the stir crazy person who normally does these jobs at this time of year longing for some fudge!
Frances

Dearest Joy, it's the last day of the month, which means.....a new month closer to spring!!! I don't want to 'name' the month, because it's not much better than 'this' month...but, hey--baby steps, as they say; baby steps, Joy; you can make it now...ahh, that's right dear, hang on now; it's ok; there, there, now don't you feel better;) Send me an email with your address and fudge, or another garden mag, or whatever you wish, is on the way!!!! Hang in there;)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Frances .. I think fudge is an all round cure for a lot of what winter does to us ? haha
I am always amazed with my hellebore (I only have one but I want more !!) how good it looks all year, once it refreshes itself in the Spring .. ah, Spring .. : )

Hi Jan .. you are too sweet girl ! .. I don't mind some of February .. hubby's birthday on the 14th, yes a Valentine baby : ) So that is fun .. but yes .. once that passes it seems to be FOREVER .. what kind of March we will have is so up in the air I have no idea if I will go completely cabin crazy or not ? LOL

Anonymous said...

We had another 4-6" of fluffy snow last night, Joy, depending upon where you live. While it was very pretty first thing this morning, in the light of day, it's just MORE... Period. Though I don't actually mind winter so much, I think I'm ready for some spring, too! I like your idea of the magazines at the patio doors! Think positive. We can now officially say that spring is NEXT MONTH, at least on the calendar. :-)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Nancy .. we had more as well but we also have had a "heat-wave" here !! almost 4 degrees .. so slush has started .. which will freeze into very CRUNCHY waves everywhere .. the snow pile at the end of the driveway is a little less than 7 feet now .. Spring .. next month ???? it almost seems like a miracle if it truly is then ??? LOL

Anonymous said...

Oh My goodness, all that snow ! and here am I moaning about having cold hands when I spent 20 minutes at the allotment today. And there you are going stir crazy and can't even get out. Keep eating the fudge and looking at magazines, and I hope the snow clears for you real soon. At least you have your feline friends to keep you sane.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Maureen ! .. Did I say I watch Coronation St. as well as some VERY old Eastenders to keep me satisfied too ? LOL
We are very behind you guys in the UK but what can we do ? ... Hey, the Canadian in me keeps me sane for a bit too .. but the fudge and magazines .. well they HELP a LOT !! : )

I seem to remember this shappening around this time last year Joy. I was just getting my typing fingers ready to suggest some medicinal fudge, but I see you got there before me ;)

We've got snow here today too - laughably light compared to what you get, but snow nevertheless. Skimble and Jess are central heating duty as a result...

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Kim .. This time of year really makes me crazier than normal .. what the heck is normal any more ? .. at least 6 more weeks of winter as far as the groundhogs think .. who asked them anyway ?? JEEZ !!!!

Hi VP .. Yup .. same time every year I lose my grip on sanity (what little I did have that is) .. and fudge becomes more medicinal than usual ? ..
I have a friend near Shropshire (she still hasn't received her Xmas parcel from me .. I mailed it from here mid December .. what can I say ?) .. any who , she sent a video of the snow storm and it looks quite impressive .. i don't think Skimble and Jess would want to spend too much time out there in it : ) .. for that matter our girls have no idea what "outside" is !! LOL

Melanie Chopay said...

Hi Joy, I love the garden magazines against the door! Right now I'm sitting here looking out at SNOW that is falling like crazy. Wish I had read your post early this morning so I could have run to the store and gotten a magazine or two... phooey.

Melanie

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Melanie .. it just doesn't stop and another 6 weeks of it ?? I am going to be stark raving mad .. nothing to post about either at this point .. JEEZ !!!

Kate/High Altitude Gardening said...

Hi;
I must be the only person hoping for snow and not getting it! Love the idea of placing garden magazines against the door. Perhaps it will add some good karma and melt the drifts.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Kate .. believe me girl, you would be a little twitchy ? by now with all of the snow we get .. then see garden blogs where they have Spring bulbs showing , knowing we have so long to go .. aarrgghh ! LOL
Hope it is good karma too : )

The girls seem to have found inner peace, but then they're not gardeners. I enjoyed your creative solution! Our recent 8" of "flurries" dressed everything up, once again, but I'm getting tired of "basic white!" Any fudge left? /Deb

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Deb .. I am so tired of white on white, I can't even say how TIRED I AM !!
I haven't posted in a bit .. now I have to because i will lose all touch soon if I don't .. plus I have to try the new feed thing .. fingers crossed. I'm sorry girl but you better bring more fudge with you .. none left ... burp ! LOL
