Wolf Moon for Lisa at Greenbow !

Lisa at Greenbow asked me if I had seen the "Wolf Moon" last night .. and wow !
Did I ever see a moon to howl at .. but in the midst of being caught by surprise that this event was happening (many many DUH ? moments in my life have been happening lately .. poor Teza and probably Deborah from GreenTheater have wondered about me as well) .. in any case .. here is my explanation ?
I was caught off guard .. if I had seen this event happening earlier I would have taken pictures while the sky was still lighter and I might have had more definition with the sky as the background to this amazing moon .. and apparently Mars might have been a visual treat as well .. that is if my brain cells had kicked in ?
It was so spectacular this picture does it an injustice but I wanted to show the whole show ? for a point of referance ?
Much to my amazement .. while in full panic mode of "where the hell is scenic night mode?"!!!! on my camera.
Many clicks and curses (yes .. sorry but in the heat of the moment it has been known to happen .. and yet in other not so heated moments as well, no excuses .. go figure .. can you say MENOPAUSE ??"
In any case .. I finally found said mode and clicked away .. the sky was not as black as this but the camera has to make up for these problems .. it has to create "slight of sight" if you will, so we can see the desired object more clearly ... and this was one desired object .. I was in total rapture standing out in bare feet and fluffy robe breathing like some kind of tortured asthmatic wolf-woman due to insanely bad head/chest combo cold from hell .. but it was worth it .. it was amazing to see the moon hung in the sky looking so stunning.
I have a note to myself to check much earlier to see if I can get a better picture .. but we have overcast skies .. so the odds are not in my favor .. but I am grateful to have happened upon a truly beautiful event last night ..

Look for your "Wolf-moon" it will be a precious moment .. you will feel something indescribable I promise !

Joy, you got some awesome photos of the moon. I first saw this amazing moon on Friday morning when I opened the front curtains. Up till then the nights and mornings had very cloudy skies. It was frigid when I popped out the front door to take some shots. I tried again today, but have yet to upload the images to the computer. This is when I had a super, super zoom lens.

Wow wow wow!! Gorgeous moon!! I actually remembered that it was a full moon this weekend since all sorts of crappy things kept happening this week...have to blame something! Unfortunately this lovely winter storm has us comPLETEly clouded over. Can't see anything. But you enjoy it!! Capture it all whenever you can. Then the rest of us can live vicariously through your pictures for a night. :)

Luna and I had a little howling session. It is a beauty. I can see it better tonight as it isn't so cloudy. Thanks for the link love. I haven't posted in awhile. I think I have the winter funk. :/ A beautiful sunny day today was just what the dr ordered. Beautiful photos here. Cheers.

FAbulous photos, Joy. We couldn't see the wolf moon last night due to the absurd blizzard and galeforce winds, but tonight we have a lovely pearly moon shining on the snowdrifts. Too cold to go out and fiddle with my camera, though. I'm a fairweather photographer. :-)

What incredible pictures!!! I have not heard of Wolf Moon before, thanks for the introduction. :)

Beautiful Joy. Going to go out and see if I can spot that tonight. Hope it isn't gone.

I'd never heard of a Wolf Moon before, but I did see that Mars was supposed to have been visible. We had too many clouds to see either last night. Your pictures turned out so nice. I cannot get a picture of the moon no matter what setting I try, it's just one big blur. I'll have to admire yours instead!

I was leaning out my door but did not hear your howls! I hope you do not regain your cold! What a beautiful moon! You sure managed to get some great shots in spite of cursors and {hot}flashes! Here with the snow our nights are so bright ... one can walk about without a flashlight... but it is too darn cold!! I hope you are truly feeling fit pronto! ;>)

Wasn't the moon amazing the past 2 nights, Joy! Great shots :)

Linda girl .. Thank you !!
I am going to try and search for these events and have them on a side bar post for when to look for them because I was floored with how spectacular a show I almost missed ! Yes the weather has been so cold and unreliable with cloud cover .. but last night it was so amazing too ! I hope to see your pictures girl : )

Linda W (I have a lot of Lindas in my life ? LOL) Thank you !!
How has that storm been way down there ? Too bad about the cloud cover , it can be so frustrating .. I should have had my tripod up for last night .. it was amazing and the pictures I took won't be any good I'm sure .. John had to spot the moon for me because it was so low on the horizon I kept missing it.
I'm going to have a look at your album as soon as I get some much needed cleaning here ? LOL

Hi Lisa girl and Luna (gotta' love that name : ) You are very welcome .. hey don't worry about the posting bit .. there is lots to read on your blog ! I have been so sick in the last few months it is a wonder I have posted anything :-( I'm so glad you got some sun .. it truly makes a difference in how we feel girl .. hope it lasts a long time !!

Jodi girl .. I understand about the too clod to fiddle with the camera (my tripod was in the closet and I was hanging out the deck door FREEZING (hoping I could freeze out this darn cold ? haha)
The moon was so low on the horizon last night I missed it a few times .. started out as a gorgeous YELLOW then went to pearly .. just gorgeous, I was so glad to see it : ) Fingers crossed for more fair weather eh ?

You are very welcome Rebecca and thank you ! I hadn't either .. or if I did I forgot ? LOL It was amazing : )

Hey there Debbie girl : ) It was out last night but much different in location and colour .. still stunning but we are COLD here .. I bet you have a better temp to go outside and look at it ? LOL

Cindee was that you I heard the howling from ?? haha .. I thought so : ) .. cloud cover is so maddening but I know you kept a picture of it in your mind with how it looked right ? LOL

Hey Cat girl .. it was truly thrilling to see .. I have to investigate a schedule and post them to remind myself .. sometimes I actually look at my sidebar ? LOL

Catherin the stars (Mars) were out last night and with that moon it was glorious but so COLD here .. I have a terrible time trying to capture the moon too .. this was the first time I could (and finding the setting was a miracle ? LOL) I have better shots early morning in Spring and summer and Autumn too actually .. one hint is to have as pale a sky as possible to shoot the moon against the camera can pick up the detail better .. try it when you have a sky like that ?

Carol thank you : )
The urge to howl was so strong I can't get over it ? LOL .. it amazed me that I got those pictures too ! LOL finally after years and years : ) Yes .. those nights when it is so bright out .. but so cold too .. you have to love though, don't you ? husband was worried about me hanging out the door too but hey .. I AM CANADIAN EH ? LOL

hey there Joey girl ! It was fantastic !! I was so glad to be able to get some pictures .. it really sets a buzz in you to see such beautiful celestial events : )

Great shot of the moon!

It will be 10 degrees here tonight - snow on the ground and probably clear skies. Should be lit up outside for sure!

Cheers,
Cameron

Wow those are really nice moon photos! Beautiful!

While worried about your bare feet while sick, the happiness you received from shooting the moon must have offset any ill effects! I need to look for scenic night setting on my camera too. It is to be clear tonight, finally, so we will give a look, with boots on. :-)

Thanks Freda : ) .. sounds like it is a little "Canadian" down there for the weather .. it will be beautiful so take some pictures girl !!

Hi there Beth and thank you very much ! : )

Frances girl .. I should have known better but when I saw that moon ... well it took over completely ! LOL .. and it took me this long to figure out my scenic night time mode , rather embarrassing but at least I got there finally .. hunt yours down girl ! and look for that gorgeous moon : )

Gorgeous moon shots, Joy! I haven't noticed the "Wolf Moon," but then it's been so cold out lately that I don't venture outside after dark--Sophie has to go out alone. It's a little warmer today, so maybe I'll take a quick peek at the moon tonight.

You are quite the sky artist, Joy. The photos of the sunrise on your last post are awesome, especially the ones that look like a ball of fire in the twigs--Wow!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Rose girl I hope you get to see that moon .. it was so beautiful I couldn't take my eyes off of it !
I have to say I absolutely love what my camera picked up on with the sunrise last year (I think it was May) it made me feel much better about spending that much money on the new camera then .. with a 26 x optical zoom it picked up such fantastic detail .. is it bad to admire your own work like that ? LOL .. in any case it made me so happy : ) thanks for noticing !!

I think these are wonderful~My camera or should I say I can't capture the moon at all! gail

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Gail girl .. this was the first time I found scenic night mode .. most times I take moon shots in the morning when the sky is lighter and my camera can figure it out without me interfering too much ? LOL It will come to you too !

Joy... I did see the Wolf Moon..I happened to be reading some articles on yahoo.. who alerted me about it..so I watched for it that night It was large bright and beautiful.

Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to take a picture of it because I need to upgrade my Kodak Advantix c650 to a digital camera.

WOW! Gorgeous, stunning photos, Joy. This was definitely a cool moon and you have captured it beautifully.

Vetsy girl ! Hello there .. I have been sick with the cold from hell (oxymoron type description eh ? haha) so I haven't been visiting blogs .. note to self "visit" more blogs when alive again ?.. it was the most amazing moon .. now I have to find a schedule of when these types of events happen .. maybe keep a separate record or even blog ! You have to love "sky events" : ) Good luck with the camera hunt !

Cat girl .. I swear this darn (other words used in my head of course) cold has killed off more brain cells than I can replace .. that is if I have any in storage ? yikes ! Hope to get back to almost human soon ! wink wink !

Kate .. OMG ! every time I see a picture of where you live and what views you have like Carol has too .. well I think I would be in heaven .. I really do .. you are so lucky girl : ) Glad you have a blog so I can share that place with you ? LOL

Hola chickie...just wanted to let you know your comments aren't embedded. This is a whole other page and doesn't give bloggers problems. The ones that are troublesome are spaces right at the end of a post. Don't worry. You're awesome.

That was an awesome moon over our pine trees but I never picked up the camera. We were too busy in the living room by the warm fireplace. I can’t believe you got out in the cold with you being sick and snapping away. I too get a bit fussy, Okay cussy at the camera. Funny thing, It is not the cameras fault but I feel better yelling at the camera... lol...

The sun looked as though it had the bushes on fire in that one fireball picture!

Oh and one more thing, You had better be enjoying those dishes, I almost had to put myself on the street corner to earn money to pay for the shipment lol....

Stay inside and get well soon….

Jodi girl : ) LOL !Thank you for letting me know because I had no idea how to check myself (between the coughing and sneezing I'm a danger to myself on this lap top ? haha) .. Sometimes I really have to have a hard THINK about things for a while before I truly get what I was thinking about .. even that sounded weird ? .. must be the cough medicine ? haha
Thanks a bunch girl for letting me know I'm not a problem ! I appreciate it !! : )

Skeeter please don't tell me you were roasting marshmallows by that fire or I might cry .. we have a gas fireplace so I can't do that and I have such a craving for them .. and yes !! especially after doing the dancing and 'fussing ? aka naughty potty language ? haha .. it was such a beautiful moon I think I was under its spell ? note to self to find out when that will happen again and have slippers to the ready ? LOL .. and YES ! I am so proud of that fireball shot I got .. that was in May and I am hoping to get more like that .. if they ever cut those trees down I will CRY big time they are perfect !
AND yes madame !! I adore those beautiful dishes : ) and I do think about holy moses the postage thing !! YIKES !! I owe you BIG time girl !! haha
That was such a wonderful treat : )
