Feathery to Absolute Freezing

These pictures were a couple of weeks ago but even after all the weather alerts it is some what the same today with a pinch more snow.
Last weekend we had 6 inches of rain fall in less than 24 hours .. it went up to 11 degrees.. it was madness, we have never seen weather like that before.
Then it froze, and went to -20 with a wind chill of -27 Friday morning , talk about a chilling affect !
This snow was so feathery it looked unreal at times.
It looked like artificial snow that they blow on movie sets in fact.
One of my Japanese maples refused to drop it leaves .. can't blame it !
I needed something with living colour desperately, thus the Costco purchase.
Living, breathing bulbs in this special vase.
The soft yellow was my favorite .. when we bought it, none of the flowers were blooming.
So they really came alive in my kitchen, how perfect is that !
The first post of the new year is always a bit tricky, but there it is.

We have had such cold weather with a wicked wind. Today it is a bit better and our furnace went out. ha... Luckily the furnace people were able to get here this morning, get the parts needed and get it up and running again. Plus we had snow this morning. Just enough to dust the ground good. I always like snow in the winter. Your winter pictures are so pretty. I like the feathery look.

That is to cold for me. Brrrrr. It has been cold here, but a heat wave compared to that. We have another storm coming this week. Rain and more rain. I am glad to see it and I know the plants are too. Happy New Year!!!!

Those are pretty tulips. The weather here has gone back to just above freezing, which is ok in my book. That's pretty mild for January.

Hi Lisa, thanks ! Glad you were able to get the furnace back to its job .. no one wants to be without heat when it is wicked out .. Last Friday it was -24 .. wind chill -28 ... of course I had an appointment to go to .. never fails eh ? LOL

Hi Cindee ..Happy New Year .. it is the year of the "rat" I think in the Chinese calendar.
The rain is gold where you are so that is a good event ! Have you been watching the trial at all ? LOL

Hi Jason .. the tulips cheered me up a great deal .. and I was wondering if I just let them die back and in drier conditions , maybe I can save the bulbs .. I loved that soft yellow.
The weather is totally unpredictable with climate change .. scary !

although so very terribly cold, the snow looks amazing! your photos are wonderful. it is so important (i think) to have flowers in the house at this grey time of the year - you have picked the happiest tulips! x

Oh Joy! You are getting me in the gardening mood! I am finally retired and can't wait to get out there and get dirty! I've been roaming your beautiful pictures, which always seem to get me in the mood! I love that hydrangea you pictured a few posts back. I'll have to take note of it's name. A few years ago we had a big snow (well, big for us here in Georgia), and we lost our power. I had prepared just for this and had purchased a large pizza and potatoes earlier. I cooked them in the fireplace and it was the best eating!

Hello Carrie sweetie ;-) .. Yesterday it rained, then turned to HUGE snowflakes .. you would have been amazed ! LOL .. Yes ! we have enjoyed the tulips so much .. now that they are dying back I am wondering if I can save the bulbs for the Fall planting .. I am going to try !

My goodness Leslie ! How are you ! Thanks you so much for taking the time to look back on my garden (I do that too, it gets me in the mood as well LOL)
Pink Diamond hydrangea standard .. was STUNNING because we have NEVER seen so many monarchs in the garden, EVER !! .. it was a monarch magnet and we LOVED seeing them and it evolve.
I love that you use your fireplace like that .. I would be roasting marshmallows like crazy.
We have a lovely fireplace but it is gas .. no using that ? LOL
Hope to see what you will be doing with your garden Leslie !

How beautiful your garden looks in the snow! -20 with a wind chill of 27 is hard to imagine, we never get anywhere near that cold. The tulips are gorgeous, very cheering.xxx
