Autumn Flashes

Autumn is just about my favorite time of year .. I have to give leeway to Spring when the garden wakes up .. but the garden going to sleep is a beautiful event as well. You watch for specific plants .. such as Kirengeshoma palmata  aka Korean Yellow Wax Bell . Asters , the ones I have shock me with that impossible vivid blue. Sadly ? it is in the wrong spot, not enough sun but it stubbornly hangs on to life where it is and I don't have the heart to try and transplant it because I worry it will die on me.

Foliage coloring right now is slow but sure ..

Anemone ... tall and wild looking.
Goldenrod that I keep in check ... I have pinched back a number of times so that it will bloom with a wide, multi-head, much later than normal. It gives the pollinators that needed jolt at the end of the season. Funny enough I would never have thought of this plant in my garden years ago, when it was all about collecting cultivars of groomed plants. I now am committed to giving what I can to the pollinators.
Who would not think of sedum in the Fall ?
Tricyrtis formosana aka Toad Lily. I have two types in the garden .They look like a type of orchid to me, yet survive our Canadian winters, you have to love that !
The top plant takes a cluster form, as it flowers . While the bottom one flowers up the spine of the foliage.
I randomly was picking up leaves and kept going with some rose hips, a rose, and rosemary.
A little "branchling" ? with at least four stages of leaves in flux with coloring and seed heads. It comes from "The Mother of All Trees"  aka Pacific Sunset maple, in our back garden. She is a beauty but is battling "Black Tar Spot" ... you don't see it until the Autumn .. it doesn't harm the tree, but it is ugly. So I try to capture unmarked leaves to save.
The light in early morning or late afternoon can be so exquisite against leaves. This is Autumn Brilliance serviceberry that has beautiful white flowers in Spring then followed by berries, which the birds feast on.
I can't seem to get to the bottom of this photo to post any more ... I guess there is a first time for everything ?

No wonder autumn is a favorite for you--your plants look gorgeous!

Autumn is my favorite as well--summer being over is reason enough to celebrate, but there is so much more to enjoy, like the softer, slanted light that seems to turn everything golden.

Happy Autumn!

What a wonderfully colorful autumn garden you have! I'd love to be able to grow toad lilies (I've tried). I get very little in the way of fall foliage color and the 2 trees I have that actually change color, one persimmon and an ornamental pear, wait until November or December to get there. But I do count myself lucky that I can garden throughout the year, even if that gets to be exhausting sometimes ;)

Beautiful photos! Our toad lily is just now getting ready to bloom. Our purple aster didn't do as well as last year. Your first plant intrigues me; I have never heard of it. (I live in zone 5b southern tier of New York State so what does well for you should do well for me.)

These are so beautiful! My garden has changed so much, as we've gained or lost trees.

Dear Joy, what a beauty your autumn garden! I especially love your lilies which look like orchids. This year I don't love autumn, because of all 'events' that take place here. Waiting for spring maybe something will change to a quiet life. I made a new video 'birds and flowers' where you can see your tree peony. Watch on my blog.
Have nice Sunday.

Hello all you dear garden bloggers !
I wish I had the time to answer each one but I have a huge day of trying to get garden chores done while the weather is decent .. transplanting, planting bulbs .. cleaning up a bit and organizing garden things under the deck .. I wonder how many times I will bump my head doing that ? LOL
The glow that happens with Autumn light is my favorite .. I hope all of you enjoy that too.
And if you are in a panic about the chores and planting like I am ? you are NOT alone !! LOL
Take care sweet people !

HI Dina ! Thank you so much for dropping by, I know you have your hands more than full over there ! I seriously don't know how you do what you do girl ;-) You could open a veggie stand with the crops you create .. I love that grass circle, there is something about a grassy circle that really rests the eye some how ? All those critters are beautiful .. but there is something very English about hedgehogs, haha
